Quotes-November 2011

As the next two weeks seem to be nonstop for our family, I am longing for a day to just read and write.  Until then here are some bits and pieces that have caught my attention this month.
From Ann Voscamp at The Holy Experience on her blog titled “When You Desperately Want God to Hear Your Prayers” on November 3, 2011
Faith is this unwavering trust in the heart of God in the hurt of here.  Unwavering trust all the time though I don’t understand all the time.

I would say one of the best books I have read this year is Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas and I am still not finished with it.  It is a great book for spiritual growth and is a great perspective about marriage.  Here are a few quotes I liked in my reading this month.
From p. 109 Persistence doesn’t make sense unless we live with a keen sense of eternity.

From p. 128 The Great Spiritual writer and director Francois Fenelon wrote “The more we fear to suffer, the more we need to do so.”

From p. 153 Merely being faithful to your spouse is quite a testimony in this society.  But as you go beyond that to communicate love for your spouse in a consistent, creative, and uninhibited way, the world can’t help but notice.  God will be honored.-Gary and Betsy Ricucci

From p. 163 Glossing over disagreements and sinful attitudes and behaviors isn’t fellowship; it’s polite pretending.  True fellowship insists that we fall forward.

I find that when God speaks to us.  He often uses different voices such as different sermons, good friends, books, and of course his word to get the message across.  This quote comes from the NT Message and is found in the book of I Peter, chapter 4.
Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him.  Think of your sufferings as weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way.  Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want.

Yikes!! I think I just got my toes stepped on again.
Dear God, May I remember each day that life is not all about me and what I want.  Teach my heart and mind to see the things you see.  May I be persistence in the eternal things and  may you be glorified through the relationships you have given me.    Amen
