April 2011 Quotes

I can’t believe April is almost complete.  It has been a full and emotional month for us but I can truly say that God is good and faithful in all things.  Here are some quotes from my reading and friends.

From Thomas Guthrie:
If you find yourself loving any pleasure more than prayer, any book better than your Bible, any house better than the house of the Lord, any table better than the Lord’s table, any person better than Christ, or any indulgence better than the hope of heaven…. Be alarmed.

Unknown: We cannot direct the winds but we can adjust the sails.

Okay I am still working on the Bridges book but a little at a time has been good and the timing has been perfect.  From Trusting God:Even When It Hurts by Gerald and Jerry Bridges
We must see our circumstances through God’s love instead of, as we are prone to do, seeing God’s love through our circumstances.

We mistakenly look for tokens of God’s love in happiness.  We should instead look for them in His faithfulness and persistent work to conform us to Christ.

Thanksgiving is an admission of dependence.

From Deadline by Randy Alcorn
An angel talking to a recent resident of heaven about Jesus.  He did not need us to rescue him.  With a single word, with merely a thought, he could have unmade all men, destroyed the universe, purged all creation of the ugliness that nailed him to the that cross.  But he did  not.  He would not.  He did not go there to be rescued.  He went there to rescue.
