Galatians 5: Free to do what?
In Galatians 5:1 Paul tells us that it was for freedom Christ set us free. So what are we going to do with this freedom? Well, Paul has a few suggestions.
1. I am to look forward to seeing God fulfill His promises. “But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to recieve everything promised us who are right with God through faith.” vs5 NLT.
2.”Faith working through love.” vs6 NAS should be a part of my life. I now have the energy to see where God is working and in faith join Him. Because of his grace, I can focus on loving people instead of a bunch of do’s and don’ts.
3. I am to “through love serve one another.” vs13b. It is so easy to focus on what I need and want instead of what is going on around me in the lives of others. We have a saying at our house “It’s not all about you.” God wants me to use the opportunities I have to serve my family, friends and those who cross my path.
4. With the Spirit’s help, I will hopefully begin to see the fruit of the Spirit in my life. With this fruit as a part of my life, I will better be able to “crucify the flesh with its passions and desires.” vs24
5. I will remember that I belong to Christ and that I am not doing life alone as long as I walk by the Spirit He has given me.
Dear God, There is a lot of things I don’t understand about this chapter but I do know that I am free because of Jesus and by His Spirit I can know the way to live. May the fruit of the Spirit be evident in my life and through love may I serve those you send my way. Amen
